Best Trends to Consider for Timeless Interiors

When exploring design possibilities for your home, understanding current trends provides valuable inspiration while allowing for personal interpretation. Drawing from our decades of experience in luxury furniture design, we present curated selections that marry timeless elegance with contemporary functionality.

Multifunctional Storage Solutions

In the past five years society has had to adapt to frequent changes that have seen an uptick in working from home. Due to this, there has been a growing demand for multifaceted stowing solutions that doubles as something else too. We have seen various examples such as beds with storage drawers underneath or TV units that include a desk for an easy-to-set-up workstation. Multifunctional stowing cabinets have a space in every home and are more often than not quite stylish.

They work well for a range of styles including modern and traditional homes. One of our favourite designs features a long cabinet made from solid wood and a gold metal frame. One of the doors is made from glass for a convenient peek inside. One side of the cabinet offers drawers, and the other side is open allowing you to stow larger items. The finishings such as handles are made from gold while the wood is something light in colour something like white oak or ash.

Flexible Shelving

One of the principles of modern furniture design is flexibility. The idea is to remain flexible enough so you can adjust when and where necessary. A cabinet does not have to have permanent fixtures, instead, some aspects such as the shelves can be removable so you can adjust them to accommodate larger items. Reconfiguration has emerged as a trend that hands the power back to the homeowner, instead of needing to make permanent upgrades. Our senior design team cannot get enough of flexible stowing cabinets, citing their convenience as, amongst other things, a need for every home. They further shared four characteristics to look for when choosing a cabinet with flexible shelving:

Reconfiguration

You must be able to freely remove and install shelves based on your requirements.

Adaptable

The shelves should preferably be in different lengths and shapes allowing for more personalisation. Think about it this way, you use the cabinet as a place to store luxury clothing. Smaller shelves for jewellery and fragrances are on the right and larger shelves for designer clothes are on the left.

Aesthetics

The shelves can be made of different types of wood, texture, and colour, granted the wood types match.

Optimised space

Removable shelves allow for space optimisation. If your cabinet is large enough to store a bigger item, you can then remove all the shelves to make it fit.

Modern Modular Updates

We must mention how much we enjoy modular designs as the very essence of the design is rooted in the "building block". Modular cabinets are modern and sophisticated pieces that offer so much more than aesthetics. They allow homeowners to experiment, focusing on personal preferences and storage. One of our favourite designs features a cabinet with three tiers and three cabinets combined as one - each tier is a different length and colour. This particular design works in busy households where each person needs some type of stowing solution.

Additionally, modular cabinets are preferred in home offices, largely because they offer so much storage. Here are some other characteristics to consider for modular stowing cabinets:

Personalisation

In modern luxury homes, personalisation is key to reflecting your personality and showing who you truly are.

Space utilisation

Modular stowing cabinets are often designed as space savers and work well as a corner unit.

Easy to move around

Some of us enjoy rearranging our rooms once a month and modular units allow you to do just that.

Hidden in Plain Sight

Our senior designer, Cristina Chirila, specialises in crafting discreet storage solutions that enhance rather than interrupt your interior aesthetic.

This approach creates an element of sophisticated mystery, where functionality harmoniously blends with design. Premium materials and precise engineering ensure these hidden elements operate flawlessly while maintaining visual elegance.

Being stowed away from the naked eye means that you can get quite creative. For example, a storage cabinet in your lounge can simply appear to be two French doors opening into another room. But in reality, it stows all your fine China and other valuable cutlery. Another way to achieve the hidden-in-plain-sight aesthetic is in your bedroom.

The cabinet can have a glass sliding door that is double-glazed so that no one can see into the unit from the outside. This creates an alluring and secretive look and feel.

Sustainable Options

Society has evolved to understand the importance of sustainability. It is not as simple as going green but rather a commitment to making smarter choices that positively affect the planet and nature. More often modern furniture is being created with eco-friendly options. This has now become more than a trend and seemingly a way of life across several businesses, brands and industries. Some of the preferred sustainable materials include anything recyclable, bamboo and reclaimed wood. Wood is one of the more sustainable choices as you can replant a tree, a practice we hope will become more mainstream soon. For modern stowing cabinets, there are a plethora of sustainable options and designs. Here are some eco-friendly materials to consider for a luxury cabinet design:

Reclaimed wood

Two characteristics stand out: durability and vintage appeal. Reclaimed wood looks naturally withered leaving you to think an item constructed from it was made centuries ago. Reclaimed wood also includes old-growth timber which is denser and makes it much stronger than cabinets created with newer wood.

Bamboo

This not only grows much faster than conventional wood, but it has superior strength and durability.

Recycled materials

A cleverly designed storage cabinet can be made from recycled materials since it fuses innovation with sustainability. Not only does this positively contribute to the environment, it allows you to create something truly unique.

Minimalism for Any Home

Minimalist stowing solutions can work in any home but are more common in modern properties. The conundrum of managing a space can leave one overwhelmed. You have so many variables to consider even more than just storage. However, minimalist stowing units do aid here.

Whether you’re planning a living room storage cabinet, home office or for the kitchen - handleless cabinets are a great way to bring in some clean, minimalist aesthetics. You’ll also have to opt for neutral colours like white, grey and beige. Our designers also recommend bringing in as much natural light and natural materials in these spaces as possible. Your cabinet will have clean lines and perhaps have some geometric shapes depending on what it is constructed from. It will not clutter your space but rather be sleek in design, chic in style and functional enough so you have all the storage you need. At the end of the day, your minimalist cabinets will not restrict you in any way, rather, they will elevate the aesthetics of your space, as long as they’re designed well and constructed using good quality materials.

Technology at the Forefront

Contemporary luxury demands seamless integration of technology.

Our design team specializes in incorporating advanced features that enhance both functionality and security:

  • Charging stations: If you have a cabinet in your TV room and store your devices such as consoles and laptops, you can include a charging station.
  • This way, when you are ready to use the device, it has been fully charged.

  • Smart locks: If your unit is in your bedroom and you use it for valuables, a smart lock can give you peace of mind. There are several options including app-controlled versions you can access even when you are away from home.
  • Luxury appliances brands like Gaggenau and VZUG also allow you to customise bespoke appliances and integrate them seamlessly with your cabinets.

Statement Upholstery

At first, we must admit this trend caught us by surprise as we assumed colourful upholstery might be more whimsical than trendy. However, we have been pleasantly surprised at how upholstery can brighten any furniture.

There are so many variations and shades to choose from you can get quite creative.

But before you do, here are some considerations:

Personalisation

If your cabinet is made from wood and is in the kitchen, opt for upholstery that is light in colour, preferably pastel. The aim is twofold, keep the stowing unit out of sight and have subtle touches of your favourite light colour to add a hint of your personality.

It can make a statement

If your unit is in the lounge choose an eccentric and bold colour that ensures it is the unit is the focal point.

Think of the mood

It is well known that colour does enhance or change one's mood so choose a colour that reflects the mood you hope to achieve in a room.
