Cattelan Italia was born from an idea sparked in the minds of Giorgio and Sylvia Cattelan. They started out producing high quality tables made of marble intended for the export market. As the son of a famous carpenter in Thiene, near Vicenza, you would think that Giorgio Cattelan would have followed in his father’s footsteps and used wood as his primary material. However, he saw a gap in the market for something different, and he combined his knowledge of furniture with business acumen to create a range of marble tables that quickly became sought-after. In 1989, Cattelan’s collection further expanded to include chairs, bookcases and other products. They also began working with wood, metal, glass and leather.

In 2011, Cattelan Italia bought ARKETIPO, a Florentine company known all over the world for its sophisticated, haute couture products. This is when the company ventured into the upholstery world, with one of Giorgio’s son, Lorenzo, at the helm of ARKETIPO. His other son, Paolo, takes care of the marketing and has been a key person in the commercial and design evolution of Cattelan Italia.

Another flagshi product is the Bella folding chair by Giorgio Cattelan that took the Prize Neocon award in Chicago. It is characterised by a play on curves, featuring a steel frame and a seat in leather with standard stitching.
