Whether your closet is massive or tiny you will want to get the most from it; so how do you maximise space in a walk-in wardrobe?
There is no right way to design a wardrobe. What matters is ensuring that the contents - clothes, shoes, bags and accessories - are well organised and easily accessible.
This is why we build bespoke wardrobes that perfectly suit your space. When we first sit down to plan your wardrobe design, we'll take into account all your requirements including the size and shape of your room as well as your budget. That way we are able to give you optimal storage. Read on for tips and ideas to maximise space for your walk-in wardrobe.
Imagine walking into your closet and seeing all your belongings neatly arranged in front of you. That is the beauty of a well-designed custom walk-in wardrobe.
Hanging rods are a key component of this system. You should hang your clothes sideways so that you can fit multiple pieces in a small space whilst maintaining a good view of each item.
For clothes that require folding, dedicate a section of your wardrobe to cubicles where you can separate folded garments according to type or function. Your shelves should be deep enough so your clothes don’t hang over the edge, and shallow enough so you can reach each item easily.
We'll help you measure your space and work with you to determine the best layout of interior features to achieve optimal storage for your things.

Chat NowLong gowns and coats can take up a lot of vertical and horizontal room in your bespoke walk-in wardrobe. However, by raising the height of hanging rods you can create a multi-functioning storage system.
By installing rods at the top of the wardrobe, you will have some free room at the bottom where you can add drawers or racks for other items.
To reach your garments, you can either keep a stylish closet-reacher pole or have a comfortable ladder installed.
If you have the extra space for a large walkway in the centre of your luxury walk-in wardrobe, you can use this space to add items of furniture such as soft benches and ottomans.
This comfortable seating gives you a cosy area to sit and put on your shoes, while the soft fabric finishes add a plush feel to your dressing room. You can of course mix and match fabrics according to a colour scheme for maximum style effect.
The ottoman storage bench is the best choice for your walk-in wardrobe. With a simple lift of its soft-close top, you can store cushions, blankets and pillows in its frame, adding extra storage to your overall design. The seat itself makes a nice perch for your handbag and other accessories that you will need for the day.
Every walk-in wardrobe should have a statement light fixture. It can become the focal point of a room and take your closet to the next level. Even without high ceilings, you can find a style of contemporary lighting that works and adds a unique touch to your room.
Another aspect that you can personalise is wardrobe door handles. Most people don’t give their wardrobe door handles much thought, yet it is an easy way to add flair and personal style to your wardrobe. When we design your custom-built wardrobe, we give you a variety of door handle options to suit your aesthetic and elevate the look of your closet.
Lastly, your choice of hangers is a fabulous way to add your own unique touch. If you have an open wardrobe (no doors) the first thing your eyes are drawn to is the hangers. Consider adding thick and chic hangers so as to space out your clothes and give them a luxurious look. While it might be tempting to mix and match, we recommend that you stick to uniform hangers of the same type and colour throughout your closet.
Most of us can remember our clothes by colour: that gorgeous red dress or the well-fitting blue slacks. Hence, grouping clothes by colour makes it easier to sift through them and find what you're looking for.
One of the reasons we overlook certain items of clothing is because they get lost in between bolder colours and are never picked out. The best way to colour code is to first group clothes by type and then by colour. You can have a separate section for patterns if need be.
Alternatively, you can sort your clothes by type. This could be tops on their own, pants on their own, etc, or you might prefer to group your garments by function, such as gym clothes, workwear, formal wear, etc.
Every corner and surface in your walk-in wardrobe can serve a storage function if it is customised to do so. Once you have a good idea of what it is you will be storing, chat with our expert wardrobes team and we will design a walk-in wardrobe that delivers on value, functionality and aesthetics.
