Chat NowThese 9 astonishing units conceived by architects Shusaku Arakawa and Madeline Gins have become both a landmark and tourist attraction in Tokyo’s western suburbs. Their brilliance was born from the life of the great Helen Keller who, through her ability to transcend her impossible disabilities, was able to accomplish a “reversible destiny” and inspire the world. The residences, painted in fourteen colours, are built to accommodate and reflect the changes we go through as we age. Aside from being an art statement, they provide a variety of uses that physically challenge you to do things that you once may have thought impossible. So whether you’re seven or seventy, they are a delight to explore.

Designed by architect Mathias Klotz, Raul House is a spectacular getaway nestled in the side of a hill above Santiago’s Aculeo Lagoon. With breathtaking views, the house itself is single-levelled and consumes a continuous space, making it voluminous and airy. The covered terraces to the north and east give rise to stunning views spanning a full 180º.
Surprisingly, the entire build was low-budget with a base of concrete piles and a wood and steel structure. With it’s dark exterior leaving a very light footprint on its environment, and a bright white interior, it’s a thoughtful, expansive testament to modernist architecture.

Reminiscent of a futuristic ship, Flex House situated on the shores of Lake Zurich gives the impression that it has moored itself comfortably onto one of the banks. This four-storey stunner by Evolution design features a ribbon-like façade and walls of glass giving it views from across the lake to the distant mountains. Inside reveals a fluid floor-plan, open and light, with a double-height space that, from the ground floor allows a peek into the bedrooms and from the top, a view of the living area. The entire ensemble is one of movement and flow, constantly drawing ones eye upwards and in wonder.

It boasts 2000 square feet of unusual, angular living zones which features thoughtfully positioned windows to beautifully illuminate the interior. With expansive views of it’s striking surrounds and elegantly minimalistic furnishings, it provides a private safe-haven of awe-inspiring proportions.

If you’re happiest ensconced in a good book, then Glassbook house in Tempe, Sydney would be your dream come true. The build revolves around the individual act of reading with two stories of bookcases accessible from every space.
Designed by Sibling Architecture, the home itself is characterised by a glass-block façade that filters light throughout the interior. This also provides acoustic relief and a sanctuary from the busy outside world. An upstairs nook looks out through a feature window, unveiling quaint views of the neighbourhood.

This eccentric, fantasy farmhouse on Belle Grove Farm, Suffolk was the incredible vision of Nick Fisher and Jo Jordan-Fisher. Self-built alongside a team of Polish workers, it is fondly dubbed “Dragon House” – an ode to the resident dragon perching fiercely on the chimney.
All building materials were personally sourced by the dynamic couple and include fineries like Indian marble and French oak. The home is jam-packed with interesting antiques and artifacts from around the world, making it a marvel to explore. Having featured on several TV shows including “George Clarke’s Amazing Spaces” and won a plethora of accolades, the house is now a well-loved British landmark.
