How Do You Make Built-in Wardrobes Look Modern?

How Do You Make Built-in Wardrobes Look Modern?

We often hear complaints from clients about outdated built-in wardrobes diminishing the appeal of a room, so how do you make a built-in wardrobe look modern?

If you're in this boat, all is not lost! At FCI London, we know what it takes to design and install luxury, fitted wardrobes that will accentuate and amplify any room in your home.

We've put together several tips to help you take your built-in wardrobes from drab to fab in a snap!

1. Choose a sleek, modern style for your wardrobes

If you're looking for the most effective built-in wardrobe ideas, there's no better place to start than by simply replacing them.

There are a variety of modern styles and colours that you can implement to spruce up your new bespoke wardrobe. Think straight lines, neutral colours or a rich wood finish for that modern look and feel.

And don't forget to replace the door handles for your own unique personality and style; this is one aspect of modern wardrobe design that you can really customise to your heart's content.

While this is undoubtedly our best piece of advice, we know that not everyone can afford to add a bespoke built-in wardrobe to their space immediately. If this is not on the cards for you right now, read on to find out how you can spruce up your existing wardrobe.

We are fanatical about luxury fitted wardrobe design.

2. Use a light colour palette to brighten up the space

Light and bright work so well! Your built-in wardrobe may stand out more and make the room seem bigger when you keep your colour palette light and airy. White, sandstone, beige and grey are all popular shades.

Painting your wardrobe is a good way to get a new finish, as is adding new doors. This also gives you creative license to play around with the tone, textures and accessories for the rest of the room.

3. Install sliding doors for a contemporary look

A fantastic way to update any room is to play around with the style of the doors for built-in wardrobes

Wardrobes with sliding doors are an easy way to modernise an existing built-in wardrobe and make a space look more contemporary and functional, especially if there is limited space for doors that swing open.

4. Add new features, such as mirrors or shelves, to complete the look

One of the best features of built-in wardrobes that is also fresh and functional is to the addition of a mirror. You can choose from smaller mirrors mounted on the inside of shorter doors or full-length mirrors that form part of the outer door.

Not only will this help you save space in a room by eliminating the need for a standalone mirror, but you can also customise the shape of it.

Finally, adding custom shelves to accentuate the style of your wardrobe will give it the finishing touch. Your shelves can be designed around the apparel and accessories that you need to store, ensuring you have sufficient space for all your things.

5. Keep the rest of the room simple and minimalist to avoid clashing styles

For a space that flows and looks cohesive, ensure that the rest of your room is kept clean and simple. While it can be tempting to add strong, contrasting colours, the less clutter and clashing shades you have, the cleaner and more spacious your room will look.

Studies show that people feel more happier and more relaxed when they keep their rooms as minimal as possible. Since you're likely adding shelves, you can follow this principle by soring away anything that doesn't serve a decorative purpose in your space.
